Emily Herring is a professional singer and actress. She has played leading roles on the national tours of Ragtime (Mother), Kiss Me, Kate (Kate), and The Sound of Music (Mother Abbess - "Best Actress" nomination by Nat'l Broadway Theatre Awards, 2001). Some of her other credits include: Paper Mill Playhouse (Ragtime), California Musical Theatre (A Little Night Music), Virginia Samford Theatre (Always…Patsy Cline), Red Mountain Theatre (Beauty and the Beast/Mary Poppins), and Alabama Shakespeare Festival (Honky Tonk Angels). She has been a voice instructor at The University of Alabama, UAB, Montevallo, Birmingham Southern College, Rosie's Broadway Kids, and at her private studio in Birmingham and New York. Emily has earned both a BM and MM in Vocal Performance, and is a member of Actor's Equity, Musical Theatre Educator's Alliance, and the National Association of Teacher's of Singing. She is also active as a concert, cabaret, and jazz vocalist, and has enjoyed performing Internationally. Emily also enjoys teaching workshops and adjudicating at SETC, Thespian Festivals, Trumbauer, Distinguished Young Woman and Miss Alabama programs, and show choir competitions. She is a voice student of the legendary, Marni Nixon, whom she owes much gratitude. Ms. Herring has recently returned to AMDA, after serving on the Voice Faculty in 2005-2006. She is honored to be amongst such esteemed faculty - both as performers and educators - and is proud of the support AMDA continues to give our community of artists.
