For those of you who knew Harry Woolever, there is little we can say that has not already been said about his deep passion for the art of Dance and his devotion to the students whom he taught at AMDA. You are already familiar with his world-class artistic talent and skill, his exacting standards, and the love he had of sharing his knowledge and abilities to help guide young performers on their journeys.

For those of you who did not have the pleasure of knowing Harry, you no doubt are getting a sense of how special he was to all of us at AMDA, and what a dear place he holds in our hearts – and truly, in the legacy of the school. Of course he was instrumental in creating and then leading the Dance Department and designing the Dance programs and curricula, and his teaching and choreography was exceptional. But as masterful as his artistry and technical ability was in each of these roles, it was his expansive heart and generous soul that made Harry who he was, and it’s these qualities above all else about him that we cherish and honor today and every day. His profound influence will continue to reverberate throughout AMDA’s halls, studios, and stages — and in our hearts — for years to come.

Words are simply not enough to communicate the unique, extraordinary and beautiful life of Harry Woolever, so let’s celebrate him in the language in which he was most fluent: Dance!
