February 06, 2024 - Alumni, Faculty, Featured

The 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards, celebrated on Sunday, February 4, 2024, held great significance for the AMDA Community.

A highlight of the evening came with the announcement of the "Best Musical Theatre Album" Award, which was claimed by Broadway's Some Like It Hot. This award-winning musical has garnered critical acclaim, thanks in part to the stellar performances of AMDA graduate J. Harrison Ghee (Jerry/Daphne) and AMDA graduate and faculty member Jarvis B. Manning Jr. (Ensemble and Jerry/Daphne understudy). For Ghee, this win represents yet another milestone, adding a GRAMMY Award to their accolades alongside the 2023 TONY Award for “Best Leading Actor in a Musical.”

In another groundbreaking moment, the first-ever GRAMMY Award for "Best Alternative Jazz Album" was awarded to The Omnichord Real Book by Meshell Ndegeocello which features AMDA graduate and faculty member Kenita Miller-Hicks and her band The HawtPlates. Their incredible performances can be heard throughout the album, contributing to its unique and innovative sound.

Congratulations to J. Harrison Ghee, Jarvis B. Manning Jr., and Kenita Miller-Hicks on their well-deserved recognition at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
