AMDA CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH - FEBRUARY 2021

February 01, 2021 - Announcements, Featured, Spotlight

Today, February 1, marks the start of Black History Month – a time specifically set aside by our nation to celebrate the history and innumerable achievements and contributions made by Black Americans to our culture, society, and country. It is a time for all of us to recommit ourselves personally and as a community to equality, diversity, inclusion, and justice.

As we celebrate Black History this month, let us ensure that we do not focus merely on 28 days in February. Let us open our hearts, ears, and eyes and center Black History each day of the year, because we know that Black History Happens Every Day.

As a community of artists, let us all amplify the work of Black Artists and Creators, continue to honor the accomplishments of Black Artists who have shaped our communities, culture, and country, and recognize the truly amazing work being done by our own AMDA Community of Black Artists – students, faculty, and alumni.

We can support our Community of Black Artists by joining the following events as we gather together as a community (Registration links for all events will be made available to all AMDA Community members via email in the coming weeks):

February 8th, 3:30 pm PT / 6:30 pm ET:

Presentation on the History of Black Cinema

February 10th, 4pm PT / 7pm ET:

Panel Discussion with Alumna Anastacia McClesky ’03

February 19th, 5pm PT / 8:00 pm ET:

Black History Month Virtual Performance: “Unspeakable Joy”

Produced and Created by the students of AMDA’s Black Student Union. We are so awed by the work being done by AMDA’s students in the BSU, as well as the dedicated and talented faculty and staff who serve as teachers and mentors to the BSU. We encourage you to follow their Instagram account @bsu.amda and to support the work they do each and every day.
