Nina Arianda's Take Two on Broadway
June 28, 2011 -
AMDA Alum Nina Arianda will reprise her critically acclaimed role as Vanda in Venus in Fur when it debuts on Broadway this Fall. Arianda, recently nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Billie Dawn in Born Yesterday, originated the role of Vanda in the show’s off-Broadway world premiere in January of 2010. She was awarded a Theatre World Award, a Clarence Derwent Award, the Clive Barnes award, and Drama League and Outer Circle Nominations. Extended twice, the sold-out production went on to capture two Drama League nominations, an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination and three Lucille Lortel Award nominations.
The Tony Award winning Walter Bobbie (Chicago) is also set to direct the production for the second time. The Manhattan Theatre Club, who are producing the play, describe the story as Vanda’s “emotionally charged audition for Thomas, that becomes an electrifying game of cat and mouse blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex." Venus in Fur will open in November at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Nina Arianda can be seen in the current Woody Allen film Midnight In Paris with Owen Wilson, and the upcoming film Tower Heist with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.
