A Message From AMDA President Jan Martin: AMDA Stands in Solidarity With the Call for Justice and Equality

Dear AMDA Community,

AMDA stands in solidarity and outrage over the senseless and tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others. We stand behind the protests, as guaranteed in our First Amendment rights, that many of our country’s citizens are engaging in to effect positive change. As artists, we choose to be a beacon for change in a world that can be unjust. Together, we seek peace, equality and justice for all citizens.

AMDA is a place of integrity and care, where we as a community celebrate the very essence of our individuality: our diversity and our uniqueness. AMDA is so proud of our students, alumni, faculty, and staff who continue to make vital contributions to society to further the cause of racial equality. May you be safe, may your voice be heard, and may you continue to represent the strength of our AMDA community. 

AMDA pledges to support our diverse population with more vigor than ever, beginning with the following initiatives:

·         We will engage and invite dynamic speakers to address our community.

·         We will increase opportunities for students to register to vote, providing information on where and how to vote.

·         We will provide a space for all students, especially students of color, to have open and direct conversations about these profound issues affecting all of our lives.

·         We are and will continue to be open to new ideas regarding how we at AMDA can make a true difference.

AMDA pledges all of this and more. We are committed to providing an open and safe space for all of our community members.

In addition, the AMDA Offices of Student Affairs, Mental Health Counseling, and Student Success will be hosting virtual support spaces for students later this week. Information to follow soon. AMDA staff are ready and available to support any and all students.
